This was a great project!
Commissioned by the Gruppo Giovani Apindustria Brescia (local entrepreneurs association), for the event “Supernova” held in the city of Brescia at the beginning of October ’14, I designed and built a steel structure with the shape of an ark.
The concept of the Ark (what it represents and embodies) you can find it in the brochure (ENG version)

I won’t dwell on technical aspects, but despite having been standardized the production to the maximum for cost and time reasons (two weeks available), the Ark required some customization. So I carved (with CNC plasma) in the arches of the loft iron sheet profile the skyline of the city of Brescia; female figures in yoga positions in the sheets of the basements; image of a brain-tree on the iron sheet of the stern of the Ark; I used wheels of bridge cranes as counterweights; designed the layout of a lion (symbol of Brescia) then made it crafted by Officine Rivadossi in recycled plywood.
The most sensitive criticality was the stability of the loft: between normatives and inexperience (who will certify ‘that stuff? And at what cost ?!) a few variations came out during the construction process and have certainly paid off in terms of stability. In the end we had no problems at all with the whole structure.
